But is it all a great big, silly misunderstanding?
The Collection - The Bananas decide they should start collecting something. But what? Sticks? No. Seashells? Maybe. Yellow jellies? Yes! But then they eat them all and make themselves sick, and Lulu has to explain the real reason why people collect things.

Go Robot - Rat buys the Ratomat to do all the work in the shop. But when the robot gets too good at its job, things don't go at all as Rat planned. Can the Bananas help him?
The Pie - Topsy’s having a 'Shake and Bake' party and the Bananas have made her favourite apple pie. But Pedro the pig loves apple pie too and when he sees it cooling on the Bananas' window sill, he can't resist having just a little taste. Before he knows it though, he's eaten the whole thing! Pedro tries replacing the apple pie with a mud pie but one taste and the Bananas know it's not the real thing. Now they have to find out who ate their pie and make another one in time for the party.
The Dragon - Everyone in Cuddlestown is getting ready to celebrate Chinese New Year. But when Amy goes down to the lake to hang up some lanterns for their parade, she is alarmed to see a dragon appear through the mist. She quickly runs back to town to warn everyone but is upset to find that no one believes her. The Bananas feel sorry for Amy. They don’t really believe in dragons either but they don't like to see their friend upset. They decide there’s only one thing to do. They'll try to find out just what sort of dragon Amy really saw.
The Surprise - The Bananas arrive back home from a big holiday and decide to hold a party so they can see all their friends again and show them their photos. But when they go around town to issue the invitations, they discover that everyone’s too busy to listen to them. They're all preparing for the Cuddlestown Cake Competition. Not only that, but the competition is planned to take place at the same time as the Bananas' party - so no-one will be able to come. The Bananas are very disappointed but agree to go along to the cake competition instead. When they arrive at the competition though, they get a very big surprise!

This 4-minute animation shows how the international Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment will help scientists understand how the universe works. DUNE will use a huge particle detector a mile underground to embark on a mission with three major science goals: 1.) Study an intense, 1,300-kilometer-long neutrino beam to discover what happened after the big bang: Are neutrinos the reason the universe is made of matter? 2.) Use 70,000 tons of liquid argon to look for proton decay and move closer to realizing Einstein’s dream of a unified theory of matter and energy. 3.) Catch neutrinos from a supernova to watch the formation of neutron stars and black holes in real time. About 1,000 scientists from 160 institutions in 30 countries are working on the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, hosted at the Department of Energy’s Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory and South Dakota’s Sanford Underground Research Facility. DUNE collaborators come from institutions in Armenia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Greece, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Madagascar, Mexico, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Romania, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

Jeroen Van Veen has released a series of acclaimed recordings on Brilliant Classics of music by the masters of Minimalism, that 1960s-derived aesthetic in which it is not so much the case that more can be said with less as that less seems to be necessary in an increasingly noisy and chaotic world. The Estonian composer Arvo Pärt has never counted himself as among the minimalist number, nor indeed was he schooled in their new traditions, but emerged in the 1960s as an angry and dissonant voice whose musically expressed anger against Communist oppression of his native country could barely be contained within the tumultuous textures of works such as the Third Symphony, but a combination of personal circumstances and aesthetic decisions led him to pare back his style to the world of eerie calm and yet underlying melancholy that has made works such as the Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten such an enduring favourite even among audiences who would not otherwise count themselves as aficionados of the European contemporary music scene. But then Pärt has never fitted into any one stylistic box, and alongside the quiet rapture of Für Alina we may find the student-era tinkling of the intriguing early Dance Pieces, as well as arrangements of classics such as Fratres and Spiegel im Spiegel – here interpreted by Dutch cellist Douw Fonda – that seem to preserve their special mood no matter what the instrumental forces; a quality they share with works of Pärt's compositional idol, J.S. Bach.

Although it was the Irish pianist‐composer John Field who created the form ‘nocturne’, it was Chopin who realised its fullest possibilities as a medium for expressing some
of his most sensitive and poetic thoughts. “They have,” wrote James Huneker of Chopin’s nocturnes, “the exotic savour of the heated conservatory, not the fresh scent of the flowers grown in the open by the less poetic John Field … Chopin loved the night and its starry mysteries; his nocturnes are truly night pieces, some wearing an agitated, remorseful countenance; others seen in profile only; while many are like whisperings at dusk – Verlaine moods.”
In this recording the late Earl Wild abandons the usual chronological ordering in favour of mood, key and effect. Described as “one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century” (The Guardian), it was the American virtuoso’s wish through recording the Nocturnes to provide listeners with what he described as a “link to the romantic spirit and tradition of the past”, all the while emulating the abundance of technique and unfettered imagination that characterises the playing of who he considered to be history’s greatest interpreters of the set (Rachmaninoff and Paderewski, among others).
Renowned for his “deeply considered interpretive approach and ironclad technique” (The New York Times), Wild achieves this and more – for many, his interpretations are the ones against which all others are to be judged: “It’s the finest collection of complete Nocturnes ever recorded. The instrument cannot be played more perfectly” (Harold C. Schonberg, FI).

The Polonaise was a peasant dance from Poland that gained popularity in the early 18th century among composers and high society. Bach and Handel both wrote movements marked ‘Polonaise’, and in the early 19th century examples can be found in the finales of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto, and Field’s Third Piano Concerto. Chopin grew up with polonaise and other forms of traditional Polish music. His teacher, Elsner was a Polonaise composer, and the business of writing and publishing sets of polonaises was a lucrative one.
There was another reason why such a traditional was so popular in Poland at this time; the country had once again been robbed of its independence, and the nationalistic pulling power of such music helped keep the national identity and spirit alive. Chopin’s genius took the simple tunes of the Polonaise and allowed him to create large-scale complex and dramatic works with myriad emotions. In many ways they captured the Polish spirit which remained defiantly unbroken.
Folke Nauta was born in 1973 and has won many prizes in key competitions around Europe.

Le Nuove Musiche, a vibrant young ensemble from the Netherlands, specialises in music from the first half of the 17thcentury. While seeking to maintain authentic performance standards, the ensemble brings the music very much into the present, arguing that artistic questions of the past still permeate the musical landscape today. Featuring a captivating group of solo singers, who between them have performed with the Amsterdam Baroque Choir and The Bach Choir & Orchestra of The Netherlands, the ensemble is headed by Krijn Koetsveld, leader and harpsichordist, who has previously collaborated with the Groot Omroepkoor and the prestigious Netherlands Chamber Choir.
This is the second of a planned release of Claudio Monteverdi’s complete madrigals. The fifth and sixth book – already released on Brilliant Classics as 93799 – were the first to break with tradition and herald ‘la seconda pratica’, the era of the basso continuo. From then on, the publication of Monteverdi’s innovative settings were eagerly awaited, as they set the stage for more instrumental ritornellos, a newly important basso continuo and the addition of ornamentation around the bass and vocal parts. The book finishes with a ballo, Tirsi e Clori, a love duet with a five‐part accompaniment, highly elaborate, with a chatty Tirsi contrasting with a sweet and melodic Clori. When the two singers come together with the rest of the ensemble, the listener is treated to the pinnacle of the madrigal era. 00:00:00 Sinfonia – Tempro la cetra, SV 117

No more than a handful of pieces represent the entire musical heritage for baroque lute by Johann Sebastian Bach – not a lot when we consider the enormity of the composer’s total output. Although it is not known whether Bach himself played the instrument, the seven works which are ascribable to it continue to enjoy extraordinary attention on the part of musicians due to their exceptional quality, and indeed the majority originate from the areas of Germany that were home to the lute’s greatest exponents – musicians who we can be almost certain the composer came into contact with.
This recording thus presents four compositions in suite form and three pieces of a different nature, all belonging to the florid repertoire of the courtly Salonmusik that was in vogue among the German upper classes at the time. Performing them is acclaimed Italian lutenist Mario D’Agosto, whose changes in tonality aim to better serve the capacities of the instrument (BWV 996 and 997, for instance, were written for the ‘Lautenwerk’, a sort of lute-harpsichord favoured by Bach) and whose embellishments are testament to the high level of ornamentation which played such an intrinsic role in baroque performance practice.
