If it wasn't on the news, then we didn't know about it and no one had to worry about offending one another. People smoked in the supermarket, and at the ballgame, and on the airplane and no one ever complained. And just for the record, I inhaled a lot of that second-hand smoke.

Zur diesjährigen Osternachtsmesse in der St. Afra Kirche erklingt das 2012 vom walisischen Komponisten Karl Jenkins geschaffene Werk „The Peacemakers" -- zu deutsch: Die Friedensstifter.

Karl Jenkins, inzwischen der weltweit zumeist aufgeführteste lebende Komponist, verwendet als Leitgedanken in seinem Werk ein Zitat aus der Bibel (Matthäus 5,9): „Selig sind die Friedfertigen; denn sie werden Gottes Kinder heißen." Jesus selbst ist seinen gewaltfreien Weg bis zum Kreuz gegangen. Das Osterfest lädt ein, den Sieg seiner Friedensbotschaft über die Mächte des Todes zu feiern. Nach seinem großen Vorbild haben auch Friedensstifter wie Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Albert Schweitzer gelebt und in der Welt unvergessliche Friedensspuren hinterlassen. Sie alle und weitere große Persönlichkeiten des Friedens lässt Karl Jenkins in seinem Werk zu Wort kommen und begleitet ihre Gedanken mit wunderbarer Musik.
Eine Zeile des persischen Dichters und Mystikers Rumi beschreibt treffend den ethischen Wert des Werkes: „Alle Religionen, alle singen ein Lied: FRIEDE SEI MIT DIR".

Once again The Call to Prayer was performed by Hassen Rasool who was delighted to be asked to perform the Adhan at The ancient church of St Pancras, on Euston Road, London, United Kingdom on the 4th July 2018.

The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins with Haydn’s Mass in Time of War was performed to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of World War One.

Presented by : UBS CHORAL SOCIETY & ORCHESTRA, BANK OF AMERICA, MERRILL LYNCH CHOIR & SINFONIETTA, AON CHOIR, ROYAL ACADEMY CHOIR, FAIRLAWN SINGERS.

The Adhan (The Call to Prayer) was performed in the middle of the musical composition, providing a brilliantly contrasted evening of music and spirituality which was both exhilarating and inspiring. See the end of the video to hear some raw emotion from some members of the audience.
