In the mid 1800's scientists successfully passed an electric current through a vacuum in a glass tube. They saw a glow from the tube that seemed to emanate from the negatively charged plate called the cathode. Since scientists didn't know what the glow was they called it a cathode ray. There was debate over whether the cathode ray was a wave phenomenon like light or a stream of negatively charged particles. JJ Thomson effectively resolved the debate in 1897 by performing a clever experiment that determined the charge to mass ratio of the particles making up the cathode ray. He also showed that this same particle was in all different cathode materials so it must be a constituent common to all atoms. This changed our understanding of the atom from the previous billiard ball model to Thomson's plum pudding model of the atom.

If you spin a raw egg and then stop it, it will start spinning again without you having to touch it. A boiled egg, on the other hand, stops and stays stopped. Why is this? Well a raw egg contains a yolk that moves inside the egg independently of the shell. If you stop the shell, the yolk inside continues to move due to its inertia and it therefore gets the egg spinning again.

We talk about all the potentially challenging situations autonomous cars could get into but not about how human drivers are not very good. Tens of thousands die on the roads every year in collisions, most of which could be prevented by autonomous vehicles.

This alone is love é uma daquelas músicas que deu origem a outra, algo comum para o a-ha em seus primeiros dias de composição. Além da versão original ter um ritmo mais lento que a versão final (o que deixa a música ainda mais agradável de ser ouvida) esta versão difere da sua versão demo pela bateria e teclados mais presentes e acentuados.

O estribilho da canção pertencia, em sua origem, a outra canção da era Bridges"May The Last Dance Be Mine" ("It will make my last breath pass out at dawn It will make my body dissolve out in the blue") e também adaptada de "Every Mortal Night" ("Travel by trap-doors our souls are a myrid of wars And we are losing everyone").*

A versão demo de 'This Alone Is Love' (que faz parte do álbum 'Stay On These Roads' Deluxe - e que será disponibilizada no canal em breve) era originalmente uma fusão com 'Scoundrel Days', ou melhor, era uma música cujo refrão acabou se tornando a música 'Scoundrel Days'.

'This alone is love' é mais uma das músicas que esteve entre os primórdios do a-ha, mas só apareceria de forma definitiva em seu terceiro álbum (Stay On These Roads - 1988) com o 'dedo miraculoso' de Alan Tarney.

A música esteve no setlist do aclamado álbum acústico do a-ha, Summer Solstice e também foi remasterizada na versão deluxe do álbum Stay On These Roads lançada em 2015.

Essa versão foi gravada em Maui, no Havaí, no estúdio Lahaina, em agosto de 1986 (embora sua demo seja mais antiga que isso).

A composição da música é mais um produto da parceria Magne-Paul e a letra da música é de autoria é de Paul Waaktaar-Savoy.

CURIOSIDADE:
O canal oficial do a-ha disponibilizou a música em sua versão final como parte do álbum Scoundrel Days, sem fazer menção à musica ser a versão final, original, remasterizada ou demo e ao mesmo tempo também upou a mesma versão como parte integrante do álbum Stay On These Roads, porém com a descrição de qual versão é em cada caso.
