At the Palais de la Decouverte in Paris, they showed me this experiment where a 1kg aluminium plate is levitated above a large coil of wire that is being supplied with 800A of alternating current at 900Hz. This is by far the best demonstration of electromagnetic induction I have ever seen.
Back in London, I visited the magnetic lab of Michael Faraday in the basement of the Royal Institution. It was here that he did his groundbreaking work on induction. People had previously observed that current in a wire causes a compass needle to deflect, but more exciting was the prospect of using a magnetic field to generate current. Faraday created his famous induction ring by winding two coils of insulated wire onto an iron ring. When he connected a battery to one coil, a small pulse of current was induced in the other. When the battery was disconnected, current was induced in the other direction. This led Faraday to the conclusion that current was induced in the second coil only when the magnetic field through it was changing.
And if they hadn't been wrapped on the same ring, Faraday may have noticed that the two coils repel each other when the current is induced due to the interaction of their magnetic fields. This is the same thing that is happening with the aluminium plate, except we're using alternating current to create a continually changing magnetic field. This induces an alternating current in the plate, producing an opposing magnetic field which levitates the disk.

No lo dije explícitamente en el video, pero en mi opinión, la trampa bayesiana está interpretando eventos que ocurren repetidamente como eventos que ocurren inevitablemente. Pueden ser inevitables o simplemente pueden ser el resultado de una serie de pasos, que probablemente dependen de nuestro comportamiento. Sin embargo, nuestra expectativa de un cierto resultado a menudo nos lleva a comportarnos como siempre lo hemos hecho, lo que solo garantiza ese resultado. When sunlight shines through a small hole, it casts a circular image on the wall regardless of the shape of the hole. The size of the hole also doesn't affect the size of the image.
This counterintuitive demonstration shows that the hole is acting like a pinhole camera, producing an image of the sun on the wall. Therefore the size and shape of the hole have no effect on the size and shape of the image.

Al medir cuidadosamente el diámetro, el volumen se puede especificar con precisión. Dado que el espaciado de los átomos del silicio es bien conocido, el número de átomos en una esfera se puede calcular con precisión. Esto permite una determinación muy precisa de la constante de Avogadro.

¿Puedes averiguar cuál es la regla?

¿Tratas de confirmar tu teoría, buscando cisnes blancos?
Me sorprendió lo difícil que era para las personas averiguar conjuntos de números que no seguían sus hipótesis, incluso cuando su método no los estaba llevando a ninguna parte.
El "Sesgo de Confirmación" es esta tendencia a favorecer y buscar la información que nos reasegura y reconfirma en nuestras desiciones, descartando la evidencia en contra, dándonos menos posibilidad de considerar otras alternativas.
En el video digo “cuando se descubrió Australia ..." a lo que me refiero es, "cuando los europeos que creían que todos los cisnes eran blancos vinieron a Australia …”. No quise ofender a los pueblos originarios que ya estaban en Australia en ese momento. Por favor, acepten mis disculpas por esta frase si alguien se ofendió por ello.

¿Es realmente la llama un plasma? Bien, depende de la definición de plasma, pero de seguro hay iones en una llama. Estos iones se forman cuando las moléculas chocan entre sí a alta velocidad, a veces liberando los electrones de sus átomos.
Quisiera darle un agradecimiento especial al Palais de la Decouverte por ayudarme a realizar este experimento.
Usando decenas de miles de voltios en dos placas de metal, creamos un campo eléctrico muy fuerte alrededor de la llama. Esto atrajo iones positivos en una dirección e iones negativos en la otra dirección alargando la llama horizontalmente y haciendo que parpadee como una “mariposa”. Luego mostramos que a través de la llama se pueden producir chispas mucho más largas, que a través del aire, ya que los iones aumentan la conductividad.
There is a gravitational force of attraction between the Earth and the moon, but is it mutual? That is, are the forces on the Earth and the moon equal? Most people would say no, the Earth exerts a greater force of attraction because it is larger and has more mass. This is a situation in which Newton's Third Law is relevant. Newton's Third Law says that for every force, there is an equal and opposite reaction force. So the force the Earth exerts on the moon must be exactly equal and opposite the force the moon exerts on the Earth. But how can that be - that the same size force keeps the moon orbiting, but barely affects the Earth? The answer is inertia - the tendency for all objects with mass to maintain their state of motion. Since the Earth has much more mass than the moon, it has greater inertia and therefore experiences much less acceleration for the same amount of force.
