The Runaway Bear - When Amy overhears Lulu and Morgan saying that they have to get her out of the Teddy home, she decides to leave Cuddlestown. When the Bananas find out, they volunteer to go with her to stop her from being lonely. And then Bernard, Topsy and Rat and everyone else in Cuddlestown decides to go with them too! But is it all a great big, silly misunderstanding?

The Collection - The Bananas decide they should start collecting something. But what? Sticks? No. Seashells? Maybe. Yellow jellies? Yes! But then they eat them all and make themselves sick, and Lulu has to explain the real reason why people collect things.

Dr. Jay Bhattacharya is a professor of medicine at Stanford University. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and a senior fellow at both the Stanford Institute for Economic Policy Research and the Stanford Freeman Spogli Institute. His March 24, 2020, article in the Wall Street Journal questions the premise that “coronavirus would kill millions without shelter-in-place orders and quarantines.” In the article he suggests that “there’s little evidence to confirm that premise—and projections of the death toll could plausibly be orders of magnitude too high.” In this edition of Uncommon Knowledge with Peter Robinson we asked Dr. Bhattacharya to defend that statement and describe to us how he arrived at this conclusion. We get into the details of his research, which used data collected from hotspots around the world and his background as a doctor, a medical researcher, and an economist. It’s not popular right now to question conventional wisdom on sheltering in place, but Dr. Bhattacharya makes a strong case for challenging it, based in economics and science.

The Flowers
After the Bananas pick a bunch of flowers to take home, all of their friends want some too and, not wishing to upset anyone, the Bananas go and pick bunches for everyone. Eventually there are no flowers left in the field, which makes the bees very unhappy and they swarm into town. What will the Bananas do now?

Everyone keeps getting lost inside Rat's new superstore, and everything they buy falls apart. Will Rat be able to get his old shop back?

The Bushwalk
Rat sells the Bananas a new map, which ends up leading them into the Teddies' backyard! The Bananas give Rat a chance to prove his maps' worth - on the condition that he joins them on their quest to a secret waterfall.

The Gardening Bananas
B1 and B2 decide to help Morgan, but while they get to work with their vacuum cleaner, Morgan sneaks off to the beach. But what will the Bananas do when after they suck up Morgan's favourite sunflower? And will Amy and Lulu be cross with Morgan for leaving the bananas to do all the work?

Rat News
Rat decides to make a TV news show about Cuddlestown with the Bananas as his cameramen. The only problem is that there is nothing to report, so Rat makes up a story about an alien - which everyone thinks is true!

The Little Fish
The Bananas buy an aquarium from Charlie for a fish called Twinkle to live in, but she is not very happy, and when she sees a picture of the beach she tries to swim towards it. Charlie helps the Bananas work out that Twinkle is homesick, so they take her back to the beach and release her into the sea.

Pink Pyjamas
The bananas become the pink pyjama policemen, on the trail of the pink pyjama painter. But where will their search take them?

Rats Retreat
Rat wants to get his paws on some honey cakes, and he is going to make the Bananas sleep in the shed by the dump. When the Teddies find out, they decide to teach Rat a lesson.

The Banana Truck - It's Recycling Day in Cuddlestown. Lazy Rat gets rid of his junk by telling the Bananas it's a kit for a DIY truck. Imagine his surprise when they actually build one! Trouble is, he wants to drive it now, and Rat isn't a very good driver...

Rat the Banana - The Bananas help Rat put up a new set of shelves in his shop. But the shelves collapse and Rat's shop is suddenly a big mess. Now Rat has to find somewhere else to stay while his own place gets repaired. The Bananas suggest Rat stays with them – and he immediately accepts. Rat soon finds life at the Bananas' house is quite delightful, especially as the Bananas are happy to do anything he asks for. It's a dream come true. The Teddies begin to think that Rat will never go back to his own place, even after his shop is repaired. In fact, it looks like Rat will stay so long with the Bananas that they joke he might even turn into a Banana himself. That thought gives them an idea. What if Rat really did become a Banana!?

Most of the blinking signals that fireflies send out are intended to attract mates. But researchers are finding out that in some cases, these romantic overtures are not all wine and roses.

Females of one firefly group, the genus Photuris, have learned to copy other fireflies’ flashes to attract the males of those species. When one arrives, she pounces, first sucking his blood, then devouring his insides.

These “femme fatale” fireflies live throughout the Eastern U.S alongside the fireflies they target. They can develop widely varying light shows to target whatever species are in the area.

The predatory habits of Photuris are just one example of how much individual firefly signals can differ from one another.

The male Common Eastern Firefly, for example, is known for his fish hook-shaped aerial maneuver, which he repeats at six-second intervals. That characteristic move has earned the species the nickname “Big Dipper.”

The male Big Dipper hopes this bit of skywriting will get him noticed by females hiding in the grass. If the female likes what she sees, her reply comes as a single pulse from her smaller, heart-shaped lantern. That’s his invitation to land and mate.

Most firefly interactions follow the same pattern, with roving males advertising themselves to concealed females. Within a species, the back-and-forth signals are so reliable that it’s easy to attract the male fireflies with even a simple decoy.

Firefly light is biochemical. But fireflies like the Big Dippers do much more with chemistry than just make light. They can mix together an array of other compounds, including invisible pheromones for mating, and others called lucibufagins (“loosa-BOOF-ajins”) that ward off predators like spiders and birds.

At some point, the Photuris “femme fatale” fireflies lost the ability to make their own lucibufagins. So instead of chemistry, these bigger, stronger fireflies became adept at imitation, and evolved to turn into insect vampires to take these valuable compounds from other fireflies to boost their own defenses.

And it works. In experiments, predators avoided Photuris fireflies that had recently preyed on other fireflies.

--- Where do fireflies live?

There are fireflies worldwide, but in the U.S., you’ll find them in the Midwest and Eastern U.S. There are a few species in the West, including the California Pink Glow-worm.

--- Why do fireflies flash?

Mostly, it’s to attract mates. One sex, usually the male, uses a more elaborate flash pattern to get the attention of the opposite sex. Then the female signals her interest with a simpler flash.

--- Why do fireflies glow after they die?

The chemicals in the firefly that make light, luciferin and luciferase, remain viable after it dies, and the reaction that creates the light thrives on oxygen, which is of course plentiful in the air.

The quills of North American porcupines have microscopic backward-facing barbs on the tips. Those barbs make the quills slide in easy but very difficult to remove.

Researchers at Harvard are looking to porcupine quills for inspiration in designing a new type of surgical staple that would also use tiny barbs to keep itself lodged into the patient’s skin. This helps because traditional staples curve in under the skin to keep the staple in place. This creates more damage and can provide a place for bacteria to infect the wound.

--- How do porcupines defend themselves?
If threatened, a porcupine will bristle, raising its quills. The quills are densest in an area on the porcupine's back called the rosette. The quills are coated in a grease secreted by the porcupine’s skin. When the porcupine exposes its quills it releases a musky odor unique to porcupines that serves as a warning.

The porcupine turns so that it’s head faces away from the attacker and chatters its teeth to make an audible warning. If that’s not enough, he porcupine will use its muscular tail, covered in quills, to slap their attacker if they get too close.

--- Do porcupines shoot their quills?
Porcupines do not shoot their quills out. That’s a myth. Porcupine quills are held by their skin in a way that makes them difficult to fall out unless pushed in first, usually by contact with an attacker. The tail moves so quickly that it can appear that it is shooting the quills out.

Today the Catholic Church and the Franciscan Monastery stand together as one the most beautiful architecture examples in Mostar.

They were built in 1866. during the rule of the Ottoman Empire.
Today's church with its dimensions, appearance and the bell tower (107m high), dominates the city of Mostar.
What makes this place so special?

This complex boasts a library with 50,000 ancient western and eastern scriptures and books. It is the largest library of such characteristics in Herzegovina and this region. In the monastery there is also an important collection of paintings by Italian masters of the XVI and XVII century, and also works from modern artists.
Now visitors can enter the church, take photographs and enjoy the singing and watch rehearsals of the church assembly.

A large parking lot is in front of the church, which conveniently serves for visitors and tourist groups. Public toilet and shops are also close behind the church.

The church is situated very close to the Old Town of Mostar which makes it the starting point for the tour guides when they lead tours for the visitors through the town.
