The truth, with photons.
I hope I've articulated everything clearly in this video. If not, I'll clarify in comments. Thanks to everyone who appears in this video and thanks to everyone who watches this video!
Veritasium is of course a combination of the latin 'veritas' meaning truth, and the common element ending 'ium'. I guess this is my version of the 'draw my life' craze that rolled through YouTube many years ago. Except I wanted to tell my story with the actual moments, the photons, the stored magnetic states. There's something about that which is so important to me (because I think the alternative involves fooling yourself) which is why I'm so fascinated by film and video.
One of my inspirations for the name Veritasium came from the end of the poem Ode on a Grecian Urn by John Keats, in which he writes:
"Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know."

El eclipse total de sol que tuve la oportunidad de presenciar en Madras, Oregón, ocurrió el 21 de agosto del 2017 y la experiencia fue maravillosa.
Cuando la luna pasó frente al sol, el día se transformó en noche y reveló la corona solar, deslumbrándonos a todos los presentes.
Hay quienes dicen que no debes fotografiar tu primer eclipse solar y quizás tengan razón. Estaba concentrado en obtener la exposición adecuada para poder ver las perlas de Baily y el anillo de diamantes, además de asegurarme de capturar la corona y las llamaradas solares. Esto fue un poco estresante pero estoy encantado con los resultados.
El último eclipse solar total fue el 2 de julio de 2019. Se pudo ver totalmente en ciertas regiones de Argentina y Chile. En el resto de Sudamérica se vio parcialmente.
Quiero agradecer especialmente al Dr. Teagan Wall por compartir esta experiencia conmigo y a Raquel Nuno por inspirarme a venir a Oregón.

¿Será este el último video que hago sobre las unidades del Sistema Internacional?
Muy posiblemente. Hay algo acerca de ser tan precisos y definir los sistemas dentro de los cuales funciona la ciencia, que me atrae mucho. Cuando podemos medir de forma más precisa y rutinaria un kilogramo, un mol, un kelvin y un ampere, entonces podemos hacer mejores observaciones, podemos detectar mejor las anomalías y mejorar nuestras teorías. Por eso es tan importante para mí. Así que aquí les presentamos la nueva definición del kilogramo.

Con mis amigos del canal de YouTube "How Ridiculous” lanzamos una sandía desde una torre de 45 metros.
Por supuesto que se hizo pedazos al estallar contra el suelo luego de una caída libre de 3 segundos, donde la sandía aceleró a más de 100 kilómetros por hora.
Después rociamos otra sandía con un recubrimiento de polímero y la volvimos a arrojar.
No podrán creer el resultado.

Hace tiempo que quería hacer un video sobre el caos. Fue desde que leí el fantástico libro de James Gleick, Chaos. Espero que este video dé una idea del espacio fásico: una imagen de los sistemas dinámicos en los que cada punto representa completamente el estado del sistema.
Para un péndulo, el espacio fásico es solo bidimensional y se pueden obtener órbitas (en el caso de un péndulo no amortiguado) o una espiral interna (en el caso de un péndulo con fricción).
Con las ecuaciones de Lorenz necesitamos tres dimensiones para mostrar el espacio fásico. Se dice que el atractor que encuentras para estas ecuaciones es extraño y caótico porque no hay un bucle (loop), solo curvas infinitas que nunca se cruzan. Esto explica por qué el movimiento es tan impredecible: dos condiciones iniciales diferentes que están muy juntas pueden terminar arbitrariamente separadas.

Escuché sobre el Planeta 9 durante mucho tiempo, pero me preguntaba qué tipo de evidencia podría apoyar esa afirmación tan audaz: un planeta en los límites de nuestra capacidad para detectarlo, tan lejos que su período es 60 veces el de Neptuno. La hipótesis del planeta 9 ayuda a explicar la agrupación de órbitas de objetos distantes del cinturón de Kuiper. También explica cómo algunos de estos objetos tienen órbitas muy inclinadas, hasta 90 grados, en relación con el plano del sistema solar. Incluso algunos orbitan en reversa. El hecho de que el perihelio esté tan alejado sugiere que otra fuente de gravedad era esencial para sus órbitas peculiares.
